A Harley Davidson dealer from Victoria, B.C. has made it his mission to fix up a motorcycle that washed up on the province's coast after last year's tsunami in Japan.

After seeing pictures of the Harley, which was found in a large white container on a beach on Haida Gwaii last month, Steve Drane decided to help reunite it with its owner, Ikuo Yokoyama.

"My whole intent was, get that motorcycle. Get it here and start working on it," Drane said.

Even though 95 per cent of the bike's parts will have to be replaced, Drane has started a process to restore it to as close to its original character as possible.

"I would make it with all the same numbers and everything. So, he would have a good portion of it that is original," he said.

The entrepreneur was able to enlist the support of a number of motorcyclists, including the manufacturer. Drane said he is glad to be able to return something important to Yokoyama, who lost a lot during last spring's natural disaster.

Yokoyama was in Fukushima on March 11, 2011 when the earthquake and the tsunami hit. Three members of his family were killed, while his motorcycle was swept out to sea.
