Dozens of firefighters were called in and neighouring buildings had to be evacuated when a Chilliwack, B.C. gas station went up in flames Wednesday morning.

The Yarrow Central Road Esso service station caught fire at around 10:30 a.m. and firefighters say it didn't take much time for the blaze to spread through the entire building.

The fire began with a vehicle that was undergoing mechanical repairs, according to the Chilliwack Fire Department. The blaze was fuelled by natural gas released when a gas meter melted.

Fifty firefighters responded to the blaze and had it under control before noon.

Nearby homes and businesses were evacuated while firefighters fought against the flames, but no injuries have been reported. Yarrow Central Road was also closed in both directions.
