A 48-year-old Chilliwack school teacher was arrested Thursday morning for allegedly trying to lure a child under the age of 16 over the internet.

Mounties say Michael Todd Paice was taken into custody without incident and charged with one count of luring for sexual purposes. He was released after a court appearance on conditions, including that he not possess any device capable of connecting to the internet.

Few details of the alleged incident have been released but police say there is no indication that any children have been harmed. Paice was a teacher of Mount Slesse Middle School.

Cpl. Tammy Hollingsworth issued a statement acknowledging that area parents may be concerned after learning news of Paice's arrest and urging them to "take all necessary precautions in order to protect yourself and your family" on the internet.

The Chilliwack RCMP Serious Crime Unit is continuing to investigate Paice with the cooperation of the Chilliwack School District. District officials say that Paice is no longer teaching and they do not believe any students are at risk.
