Deflated basketballs and ripped nets were among the withered gym equipment at General Brock Elementary in Vancouver, but now a generous donation will have students shooting hoops in style before Christmas.

Principal Bruce Adams was ecstatic that General Brock was chosen as a recipient of the Power of Sports for Kids program at Sports Chek, which gives sporting equipment to needy children.

"A lot of times we don't always have what we need," he said.

Adams assembled some of the kids to quiz them on the meaning of Christmas and judging by their answers, the message was clear.

"Giving presents to people to make them feel in the holiday spirit," was one student's response.

But hula hoops and hockey sticks were not the only gifts to boost the students' holiday cheer.

London Drugs rallied together some popular toys ranging from dolls to trucks and gave one to each student in a class.

"I just love that we can bring this kind of joy to kids at Christmas," said London Drugs spokeswoman Cynnamon Schreinert.

With an early Christmas lighting students' smiles from ear-to-ear, CTV's 5 Days of Christmas has found a third story that embraces the festive cheer.

"I guarantee you, you could talk to them 20 years later from now and they will remember this whole day" said Adams.
