Fire fighters were busy clearing burnt trees and debris after two forest fires started in Peachland, B.C. early Saturday morning.
The first blaze broke out at around 3 a.m. and another started an hour later with flames reaching up to 10 metres into the air.
Fire fighting crews from Kamloops were called in to assist in fighting the two fires, which burnt about a hectare of fire.
The fires were under control by about 6 a.m. and crews continued to mop up the area and remove partially burnt trees Saturday morning in order to prevent a flare up.
While the cause of the fires is still under investigation, neighbours said that the area, which is located behind a school on Clemens Crescent, is a popular spot for teenagers to throw bush parties.
Despite the blaze in Peachland Saturday, fire activity remains low in B.C. this summer. According to the Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations this has been the slowest start to a fire season in a decade.
As a result, the Wildfire Management Branch has been sending B.C.'s fire fighting resources to Ontario where fires have been especially bad this year.
On Saturday, 56 fire fighting personnel joined 240 other B.C. crew members. Members can be sent to other province's for up to 19 days, however can be recalled at any time if conditions in B.C. change.
In the last three weeks, B.C. has sent 759 crew members to Ontario.
