BC Ferries has cancelled two ferry runs to Victoria due to a mechanical problem with the Spirit of B.C. ferry, but extra sailings have been added for tonight.

The 11 a.m. departure from Tsawwassen to Swartz Bay and the return trip at 1 p.m. were both cancelled because the ship was sailing with only three of four engines, BC Ferries spokeswoman Deborah Marshall told ctvbc.ca.

"There was a problem with the engine governor which caused a delay. Engineers are working really hard to get it fixed," she said.

Service is expected to be restored today at 3 p.m., and people with reservations are being re-booked for the next sailing available.

BC Ferries has set up extra sailings at 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. from both sides of the Tsawwassen to Swartz Bay route.
