A B.C. woman celebrated her 100th birthday in an unusual way -- by heading out on the links to play 18 holes.

Elsie Oates has been playing the same course in Summerland for 30 years, and she made a special outing Tuesday to celebrate a century of life.

"It's just a birthday -- just another birthday," she told CTV News.

She says she still plays the course two or three times a week, and credits her longevity to sticking with the game.

"I started when I was about 17, and that's a long time ago," she said.

"The healthiest thing you could do really is golf, because you get exercise and fresh air, and have fun at the same time."

Oates has had a few holes in one over the years, but says now she's just happy to play alongside friends and family.

Her son Wayne says Oates is an inspiration.

"She has a fluid and natural swing that she relies on all the time. It's a little shorter than it used to be, but it's still pretty good for that age," he said.
