A 19-year-old B.C. man is in police custody after another teenager was stabbed to death at a bush party celebrating the end of the school year.

Penticton Mounties were called to rural Carmie Road around 2 a.m. Friday after receiving a call that a 17-year-old boy had been stabbed. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police have not released the name of the victim, but friends have already created a Facebook group identifying him as 11th-grader Andrew Mcadam.

More than 100 high school students were at the annual, unsanctioned "Sunset" graduation party. Police say the party marks the end of a school year kicked off with a matching "Sunrise" party in September.

Police have arrested one suspect, but he is yet to be charged. Investigators are classifying the death as a homicide, but are asking other partygoers to come forward with any information they might have about the stabbing.

"We suggest that parents and guardians sit down with their teens to confirm whether or not they were at the party and to contact us with any information that may assist with the investigation," RCMP Cpl. Dan Moskaluk said in a release.

Second teen killed in shooting

Another B.C. teen is dead after a shooting in the Kootenays town of Jaffray Thursday evening.

The 17-year-old boy was with a group of young people inside a local home when one of them discovered a rifle. The gun went off, hitting and killing the victim.

Police say it's too early to tell if the shooting was accidental, but say it appears the gun wasn't properly secured. No adults were home at the time, but police do not believe the teens were drinking or doing drugs.
