One of the last remaining historic wooden houses in Vancouver's West End was destroyed in a three-alarm fire early Monday morning.
Vancouver Fire & Rescue Services were called to the 1920s home, located at Bute Street and Beach Avenue, shortly before 6 a.m. to find the two-and-a-half storey wooden structure completely engulfed in flames.
The building, which has been assessed at more than $2.2-million, is abandoned and slated for demolition.
It has been vacant since last year but had recently become shelter for transients, said battalion chief Bob Bogue.
"Vagrants were reported to be staying in here recently," he said.

A neighbouring apartment building was evacuated as a precautionary measure, but crews managed to contain the blaze and no other structures were damaged.
No injuries have been reported. The cause has not yet been determined.
