A 25-year-old woman spent an icy night trapped in a gondola on Blackcomb Mountain last week after a staff member allowed her to board in error.

The woman, an international visitor, was let onto the gondola some time between 5:30 and 6 p.m. on March 1, shortly before the lift was stopped for the night.

She didn't have a cell phone with her, and was stuck on the lift for more than 12 hours. She was discovered at 7:15 a.m. the next morning without any serious medical issues.

Whistler Blackcomb spokeswoman Tabetha Boot issued a statement Wednesday saying lift operation procedures "were not followed" and that disciplinary measures had been taken against a staff member involved.

"Whistler Blackomb takes this situation extremely seriously," it said. "The British Columbia Safety Authority was contacted immediately to report the situation."
