Five years after he killed two pedestrians in a hit-and-run crash in downtown Vancouver, Paul Antunes has been sentenced to five-and-a-half years in prison.

Stanley Wong and John Larkin were crossing Hastings Street with a third man when they were hit by a speeding Porsche Cayenne in November 2005. The Porsche sped away and Wong died at the scene. Larkin died ten days later in hospital.

Paul Antunes was convicted in June of criminal negligence and failing to stop at the scene of an accident. On Thursday, he was handed four years in prison on the negligence charge and an additional 18 months for fleeing the scene.

He will be prohibited from driving for 11 years.

During his trial, Antunes had argued that he was not behind the wheel of the SUV that killed the two men.
