A Vancouver woman has been identified as the victim of a rock climbing accident in the Mojave Desert near Las Vegas.

The Clark County Coroner's Office told ctvbc.ca that Heather Gray, 42, died after colliding with a rock face at a popular climbing spot at the Red Rock National Conservation Area on Friday.

Gray fell more than 60 feet from a rock face called Solar Slab.

Las Vegas Metro Police officers found her dangling on a cliff ledge unresponsive while still attached to her harness. They pulled her up by the ropes, but she died from her injuries four hours later.

The coroner said Gray died of blunt force trauma to the head from colliding with the rock face.

Her death has been deemed accidental.

The Red Rock National Conservation Area, which draws about a million visitors each year for hiking, biking and rock climbing, is located 17 miles west of Las Vegas.
