First, it was the strong Canadian dollar exceeding parity multiple times over the last year.
Then, it was Canada's men's hockey team winning gold at 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.
And as the saying goes, good things happen in threes.
Tonight the third part went Canada's way, as the W.J. Mouat Hawks walked to a 35-14 win over the Bonita Vista Barons.
The game swung in favour of the Canadian hosts early in the first half, when Bonita Vista's quarterback Ryan Miguel threw an interception that was returned for a touchdown by Daniel Markin.
After switching quarterbacks from Miguel to all-conference standout Greg McGhee, Bonita Vista was able to move the ball fluidly until the first play of the second quarter.
McGhee's pass to the sidelines was picked off by Tanner Hamade for a 70-yard plus touchdown.
The scoreboard did not reflect how evenly matched these two teams were at halftime, as W.J. Mouat led 28-7.
Tight end Luke Friesen would score late in the third quarter to put the hosts ahead by 28 points.
Bonita Vista would score late in the fourth to make the score 35-14, but it was the costly turnovers in the first half that kept the San Diego area team out of the contest.
With the win, W.J. Mouat moves to a perfect 5-0 record in non-conference play.
Next Friday's High School Heroes game of the week features W.J. Mouat against Lord Tweedsmuir from Mouat Fields in Abbotsford.
