A paraglider suffered a broken leg and gave a homeowner a scare after crash-landing on a North Vancouver roof on Wednesday afternoon.

Mike Clendenning told CTV News he was startled from his sleep when the adventure-seeker crashed into his home in the 5100-block of Cliffridge Avenue.

"I was having a little lie-down, and all of a sudden I felt this sort of shake," he said.

He went outside and saw someone lying on the roof.

"I knew right away then it was a hang-glider or something like that."

Clendenning said that a hang-glider crashed into his sundeck a few years back, and that he can often see paragliders from his backyard as they launch from Grouse Mountain.

"Sometimes they clip the trees," he said. "But they do a pretty good job of landing -- most of the time."

Firefighters retrieved the glider from the roof with the help of a crane, and he was taken to hospital to treat a fractured femur.

District of North Vancouver Asst. Fire Chief Wayne Kennedy said "faulty navigation" could be to blame for the botched landing.

"From all reports from the neighbours, he came in with a little too much speed," he said.
