Authorities say more than $800,000 worth of heroin was seized at the Vancouver airport last month during a security check.

The drugs were found on April 22 after Canadian Border Services agents took aside a 32-year-old man arriving on a flight from Germany and inspected his luggage.

An X-ray scan helped officers find a hidden compartment in his bag containing more than two kilograms of white powder.

The man, a Surrey resident with no prior history of drug offences, was turned over to the RCMP.

Sgt. Dave Goddard lauded the efforts of border agents to keep drugs from reaching B.C. streets.

No charges have been filed, but Goddard said Mounties are recommending charges of possession for the purposes of trafficking and importing a controlled substance.
