After waiting almost 40 years, the family of a missing B.C. woman was given closure this week after her car was found in a Penticton lake.

Coroners have concluded the woman, who went missing in November 1972, died in a car accident.

Her remains were found in a 1964 Chrysler 300 that was pulled from Skaha Lake on Sunday afternoon.

Police say her family has been notified, but her name is not being released at this time.

Investigators say the car was located near a dangerous stretch of highway that saw a number of accidents before a preventative barrier was put in.
