New carry-on rules remain in effect on all U.S.-bound flights. But how safe are your valuables when stowed away in your luggage? A recent mishap has Bachelorette star Jillian Harris casting doubts.

Fashion designer Harris moved to Chicago recently with fianc Ed Swiderski, who proposed to her on the Bachelorette finale last summer.

In December, Harris decided to take Swiderski to her family's home in Kelowna for the holidays. In her suitcase she packed a gift for her husband-to-be: an iHome Dual Docking Station.

"I was excited to give it to him because, as everyone knows, we just moved in together and we don't have an alarm clock."

But when their plane landed, the present was gone.

"You're not allowed to bring valuables or anything on board. You check them hoping they're gonna be safe, then they get stolen," She said.

New carry-on rules mean more valuables are being checked - and Harris thinks there should be tougher security for baggage handlers too.

"Why is there not surveillance, how are people leaving their shift without getting their bags checked?" she said.

Harris said the couple didn't let it ruin their holiday, and that the real gift was spending Christmas with her fianc and family.
