The woman charged with Prince Rupert's first homicide in five years will have to wait until next month to learn her fate.

The 41-year-old made her first court appearance Thursday morning and has been remanded into protective custody until July 13, when she will make her next court appearance by video link.

The woman was arrested shortly after 42-year-old Melvin Christison was found stabbed to death in his home Tuesday evening.

Cst. Krista Vrolyk says the victim and suspect knew each other, and the incident was not random.

Her name is not being released.

Prince Rupert RCMP say the homicide investigation is still in its initial stages.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Prince Rupert detachment at 250-624-2136.
