A robbery at a Surrey, B.C., fast-food restaurant was thwarted Wednesday night by a quick-thinking employee and some hot oil.

Surrey RCMP say a man walked up to the drive-through window of the restaurant at around 11:30 p.m., pulled out a knife and demanded cash.

As the suspect was reaching through the window and grabbing money from the cash register an employee took a litre of burning oil and threw it into his face.

The man managed to get away from restaurant at 96th Ave. and 160th St. with some cash.

The suspect is described as male, around 6-feet tall and 20 to 25 years of age, with a slender build.

Police add that he may be suffering from burns to his neck and face.
