Two people are in hospital, one in critical condition, after a shooting at a marina in Cowichan Bay, north of Victoria, on Wednesday morning.

RCMP spokesman Corp. Darren Lagan said an altercation between two men broke out on the deck of a cabin cruiser docked at the Bluenose Marina at around 8 a.m. He confirmed that the incident escalated when a firearm was discharged several times.

One man was airlifted to hospital in Victoria, while the other was taken by road ambulance to Cowichan District Hospital.

Witnesses earlier said two men were shot, one in the head, while the other was wounded in his back. Lagan said he could not confirm the injuries suffered by either.

Lagan also said he could not confirm what the dispute was about.

A large section of Cowichan Bay has been cordoned off as police investigate.
