A mother and her teenage son are dead after a car accident in Surrey, B.C.

The two-vehicle crash happened at a residential intersection of 132nd and 60th Avenue in Surrey just before noon Tuesday.

Police say the mother and her 16-year-old son were hit in a Pontiac sedan by a mid-sized SUV that ran through a stop sign. The names of the victims and the driver of the SUV haven't been released. There is also no word on any criminal charges.

Police say the Pontiac was traveling south on 132nd St and appears to have come to a stop at a four-way intersection before making a left turn on to 60th Ave to head east bound when the collision took place.

The SUV apparently hit the Pontiac on the passenger side and sending both vehicles on to a grassy area on the northeast corner of the intersection.

The Surrey Detachment Collision Investigation Team is investigating. The road is expected to be closed until the early evening.
