Two ferry workers were treated for smoke inhalation after a car caught fire on a ferry while it was docked at the Tsawwassen Ferry Terminal on Sunday afternoon.

The Queen of Vancouver was due to set sail for Swartz Bay at 2 p.m. when the fire broke out on the second deck.

It was brought under control by around 2:25 p.m.

Deborah Marshall of BC Ferries told CTV News the fire was contained to one vehicle and there was no other damage. A cause for the fire has not yet been determined.

She said the workers affected by smoke were part of the first response team that is trained to tackle fires. All passengers were evacuated.

"All of a sudden the alarm went off, fire suppression went off -- the sprinklers -- and BC Ferries went into motion I mean their guys responded quickly. There was no panic or screaming. Very professional, I'm very impressed with them," said passenger Dennis Pilon.

The 2 p.m. from Tsawwassen to Swartz Bay was cancelled, as was the 4 p.m. from Swartz Bay to Tsawwassen, and the 6 p.m from Tsawwassen.

More information can be found on the BC Ferries website.

A similar car fire on a ferry that had just left Tsawwassen last August forced it to make a u-turn and return to the terminal 15 minutes after sailing. Around 500 passengers were affected, and the crossing was delayed by five hours.
