Langley RCMP are warning people to be extremely careful, especially if they receive an unexpected package. The warning comes after a church missionary discovered a gift-wrapped package on his doorstep on Saturday. It exploded moments later.

"At this point in the investigation, police have not yet determined whether this incident was targeted or random," RCMP Const. Holly Marks said in a statement.

"Therefore, police are encouraging the public to be vigilant and exercise caution with any suspicious packages."

Pastor Guy Saffold can't believe anyone would want to harm Gary Stevenson and his Langley family

"It's unbelievable,'' Saffold said.

It's a mystery that police are trying to resolve after a bomb exploded at a Walnut Grove townhouse complex in Langley on Saturday afternoon.

The device was concealed in a pink gift bag and placed on the doorstep. The tissue flew everywhere

The shrapnel entered Gary Stevenson's body.

"Gary is expected to make a full recovery, [he is] asking for some chocolate to eat and wants to have his bible by his side," said Saffold.

Stevenson and his wife Lynda work for the Christian organization Power to Change.

"Our whole community is shocked by this, we don't think of people in our little town of Langley being the victims of bombings. You just wonder who could possibly want to do this kind of harm,'' said Saffold.

The Stevensons have travelled to Nicaragua and North Africa, helping the poor and starving. Their faith has kept them strong, and their friends are thanking God that Gary is still alive.

"We care a great deal about Gary and Linda. Families are providing meals to help them get through,'' said Jeffrey Chapman of Christian Life Assembley.

Langley RCMP haven't determined if the package that exploded was intended for Gary Stevenson or if this was a random attack.

Twenty units in the townhouse complex were evacuated as a precaution. But no other bombs-or packages were found. The Stevensons are praying police will catch the person who left the bomb on their doorstep
