Social advocacy groups in Vancouver have released what they say are key findings from a trial project designed to see if a regular and safe supply of heroin could stabilize the lives of addicts.
The Pivot Legal Society and Vancouver Area Network of Drug Users say the trial showed that people who were on heroin, hydromorphone or methadone, all showed improved health and were more successful in getting housing.
But a spokeswoman for the project, known as the North American Opiate Medication Initiative, or NAOMI, says the final results won't be released until a week from now (October 17th).
The Vancouver social advocates say the federal government is suppressing the results because of the election, and they got some of the details when a NAOMI researcher made a presentation in Switzerland earlier this year.
