Police say excessive speed was a major factor in a car crash on that closed one of Vancouver's major commuter arteries for several hours on Friday.

Traffic flow on a section of Marine Way was disrupted after a single vehicle crashed and flipped over on the road.

Westbound lanes of Marine Way were closed until midday after a speeding black Acura crashed just West of Boundary Road at about 3 a.m., leaving a two-block trail of debris.

The driver was ejected from vehicle and the single passenger was pulled out by emergency crews.

Both men in their 20s suffered non-life-threatening injuries although one sustained a head injury.

Some reports said the Acura may have been chased by New Westminster police for a time before the chase was called off.

Police are asking any witnesses with information about the incident to call 604-717-3012.
