Maria Weisgarber began working at CTV British Columbia in 2006. Already a reporter at a local radio station, she had always been interested in learning more about television news. It wasn't long before she made the switch and became a full-time TV reporter.

Maria has lived in British Columbia her whole life. Born in New Westminster, she spent most of her school years in Prince George after her family moved up north. Her love of writing brought her back to the Lower Mainland and led her to the broadcast journalism program at BCIT.

Over the course of her career, Maria has had the chance to try out many different roles – from radio reporter and anchor, to TV host. She has also travelled several times to cover breaking news – from a fatal avalanche in Revelstoke to Mount St. Helens letting off steam in Washington State. She is proud to have contributed to CTV's coverage of the 2009 wildfires in Kelowna, which was named the Best Newscast by the Radio and Television News Directors Association.

Maria always enjoys meeting new people and finding a way to tell their stories. In her spare time, Maria likes to travel, read, watch movies and drink B.C. wine.
