Police have identified the man gunned down last week in Surrey as a 21-year-old with an Ontario criminal record, but say there is no apparent gang connection in his slaying.

Noel Jackson, who moved to Metro Vancouver just recently, was killed at a home in the 12400-block of 70th Avenue at around 12:30 a.m. Thursday.

Sgt. Jennifer Pound of the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team said the motive in Jackson's killing is unclear, but police have found no ties to any current gang conflict.

"Given that it's early, we're still looking for tips on anything that may provide further information," she added.

Jackson's next of kin have been notified, but investigators are still working to determine where in Metro Vancouver he lived.
