Police on Vancouver Island are hunting for a motorcyclist who posted a video online proudly documenting a highway joyride at speeds reaching nearly 300 kilometres per hour.

A YouTube user named "Joe Blow" posted the video entitled "victoria [sic] highway run 299km" on April 8. It shows the motorcycle blowing past cars and trucks and weaving between vehicles on a suburban freeway.

Saanich police Sgt. Dean Jantzen said police expect to recommend several criminal charges against the driver of the blue Yamaha bike once he or she is identified.

"There are multiple infractions. I don't even know where to begin, there's so many traffic infractions in here -- let alone the dangerous behaviour, dangerous to himself or herself," Jantzen told CTV News.

"At that speed, my understanding is that it takes hundreds of metres for you to actually have the thought process to actually decide to bring the bike to a halt or to make a correction."

Investigators are asking anyone who has information about the extreme speeder to call the Saanich Police Department.
