Police called to investigate reports of screaming in Abbotsford overnight arrived to find a group of drunk, nearly naked young men recovering from an ill-conceived spin through an automated car wash.

Const. Ian MacDonald said the 20-year-olds had stripped down at around midnight and climbed into a shopping cart before setting the machine to either "typhoon" or "super typhoon" mode.

No one was injured, though the men's skin was red and sore after being blasted with water that police confirm was icy cold.

"Given that you have high pressure hoses beaming at you from all sides, the fact that they didn't have injuries is somewhat remarkable," MacDonald said.

A police cruiser pulled up as the disoriented drunks were starting to pull their clothes back on.

The officer at the scene said the men were very apologetic after learning they had alarmed neighbouring homes. He sent them home with a warning that MacDonald said other young drinkers would do well to heed.

"Ideas that are concocted in the middle of the night when you're intoxicated are generally not very good, and you might want to reconsider when you're sober," MacDonald said.
