A 5.7-magnitude earthquake hit waters 170 kilometres west of Ucluelet, B.C. Saturday afternoon.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the quake occurred off the coast of Vancouver Island at 12:05 p.m. at a depth of 12.8 kilometres in the Pacific Ocean. No tsunami is expected.

Tofino Mayor Perry Schmunk told The Canadian Press he was on the beach when the earthquake took place and he didn't feel a thing.
