Family and friends of Matthew Huszar are desperately pleading for the public's help in finding the 25-year-old who went missing late Friday night after an office Christmas party.

Mother Danny Huszar said Matthew's disappearance is completely out of character and he does not have a history of going missing or show any signs of depression.

"Last time I talked to him he was in a really good frame of mind. He's in a very good place in his life," an emotional Huszar told CTV News.

She said Matthew had made plans to go home to Victoria from Vancouver for the holidays but did not show when she went to pick him up the following day at the Inner Harbour.

"I tried calling but his cell phone went straight to voicemail," said Huszar. "I just got to thinking it was really out of character for him not to show up or not let me know what was going on."

A recent UBC Geology graduate, Matthew had attended a staff dinner for his new job at a Vancouver mining company. When the group moved to the Lamplighter Public House in Gastown, Matthew just wanted to go home, according to friends.

He was last seen walking east on Water Street shortly before midnight and it is unclear whether he tried to walk to his East Vancouver home.

Friends said Matthew had a few glasses of wine but was not intoxicated.

The mining company had also supplied taxi vouchers but a police investigation did not find evidence that his chit had been used.

His friends have been putting up posters across the city in hopes that someone may have seen Matthew or have more information.

"He was just high on life," said close friend Devin Tompkins.

"He had no reason to do this. He just bought a 50-foot sailboat that he was working on. He told me all about the holidays with his family that he was looking forward to and his girlfriend was coming over for New Year's."

Police are interested in video footage from the Lamplighter's exterior camera and detectives said they are doing everything to find Matthew.

Matthew is white, 5-11 tall and around 160 lbs. He has shoulder-length brown hair and brown eyes.

On Friday evening, he was wearing black dress pants, a white and blue checked shirt, black shoes and a dark green Banana Republic tweed knee-length coat with a coarse checked pattern.

If anyone sees Matthew, they are asked to call 911.
