Two selfless wishes from students at a Vancouver elementary school have caught the attention of generous donors who will be helping with some schoolyard and library upgrades.

Recess after recess, Admiral Seymour Elementary students have endured long lines at the swings counting to 100 before the next is allowed their turn to swing away.

But thanks to a Christmas wish from Iftu Taju, the three-seat swing set will soon be rebuilt to twice its size.

The Vancouver Foundation heard about Iftu's wish and felt something had to be done.

"The request came from a child who asked for something not for her but for her classmates," said the foundation's Gord MacDougall.

Two private donors will be contributing $8,000 through CTV's 5 Days of Christmas to build the swing set, which will be up by February.

However, Iftu's wish is not the only one to come true for Admiral Seymour Elementary.

A second request for a couple of new school books from Abe Caruso also impressed Scholastic Library, which supplied more than 400 books to the school's library.

School librarian Diane Shephard said the surprise is better than any she has ever experienced.

"It's outstanding, I can't stop smiling about it," she said.

When the donations were announced, children at Admiral Seymour Elementary were allowed to use their outdoor voices inside for once, too excited to receive some early Christmas charity.
