A female elementary school teacher from Langley, B.C. has been charged with sexually assaulting a young boy.

One of Deborah Ralph's former students came forward in early November to claim he was assaulted while attending James Kennedy Elementary School between December 1998 and June 2001.

Mounties say the alleged offences did not happen at school or during school hours, and that the boy was not a student of Ralph's at the time.

Ralph was arrested on Nov. 9 and promptly removed from her job at Langley Fundamental School, where she has been teaching since September 2010.

The 57-year-old has been charged with one count of sexual assault and one count of sexual interference.

RCMP Supt. Derek Cooke called the allegations "extremely serious in nature," and said investigators are looking to speak to any other potential victims.

Ralphs was employed at James Kennedy Elementary from September 1987 to June 2010.
