The Kelowna Airport was put on alert this weekend after a local woman reported that she had accidentally propelled a Christmas tree into the sky.

The 32-year-old called police Sunday evening to say that she'd tied a bunch of helium balloons to the five-foot tree in an attempt to impress her friends during a scavenger hunt.

But the tree got away from her, as viewers can see in a YouTube video posted online. It took off from the launching site in a parking lot near Baron Road and Highway 97 and drifted north toward the airport.

The errant evergreen drifted off to parts unknown, and has not been seen since.
