Tyler Roy Noble, 20, of Shawnigan Lake, B.C., died Saturday after succumbing to injuries caused during an early morning attack in downtown Victoria.

The young man was hit and knocked unconscious by a 24-year-old man shortly after 2:30 a.m. outside a McDonald's restaurant located at the intersection of Douglas Street and View Street, Victoria police said in a statement.

When paramedics arrived outside the fast food restaurant they treated the victim and rushed him to Victoria General Hospital where he was put on life support. Noble passed away several hours later.

The suspect, who is from Victoria, fled the scene, but later turned himself in to police around 6:30 a.m. on Saturday. He remains in custody and is expected to appear in a telebail hearing Saturday night.

Police believe the two young men did not know each other and that no weapon was used in the assault. Police also said it is too early to speculate on what may have provoked the assault or what charges will be recommended.

Staff Sgt. Gordon Cochrane of the Victoria police told ctvbc.ca the local fast food restaurant is a popular place for people to go after hitting the bar scene.
