The RCMP are warning the public about a high-risk sex offender living in the area of Mission, B.C.
Andrew Aurie Jefferson, 26, was released from a federal corrections institution on Thursday. He has a history of sexual assault against adult women and became known as the Falconridge rapist in Calgary after a series of sex attacks in 2006.
The man would grab women from behind and then attack them. Wielding a knife, the man would threaten to kill the women if they screamed.
Jefferson spent about five years in jail and never completed counselling. He was originally supposed to settle in Kelowna, B.C., but on Thursday RCMP officers learned he was coming to Mission, B.C., instead.
Mission's mayor James Atebe wants to know if his community could have been warned earlier.
"I have called a special council meeting on Monday, I will be getting to the bottom of the line what happened, and what kind of procedures and protocols took place in order to release him to here," Atebe told CTV News.
Police describe Jefferson as a Caucasian man with brown hair and green eyes. He is 5-9 tall and weighs 183 pounds. He is bound by strict parole conditions, including a 10 p.m. curfew, no alcohol and the requirement that he check in with police every day.
"We will be doing our due diligence to ensure he is abiding by those conditions," said Mission RCMP spokeswoman Cpl. Sharon Siluch.
