A group calling themselves "Occupy the Vatican" disrupted service at a downtown Vancouver church Sunday, demanding justice for residential school survivors.
About a dozen protesters stood on the steps of the Holy Rosary Cathedral demanding to be let in, but were turned away by church volunteers.
"I'm not asking you to renounce your religion," the crowd chanted in unison. "I'm asking you to stand with Jesus, and stand for what he stood for: justice, brotherhood, sisterhood and righting the wrongs of the past."
Parishioners say people have the right to protest, but churchgoers also have the right to worship in peace.
Protesters at the Vancouver Art Gallery say it wasn't an official Occupy Vancouver event, and that a majority of Occupy participants voted against marching on the church.
