CTV British Columbia is proud to be the exclusive TV media sponsor of the 20th annual Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation CIBC Run for the Cure happening on Sunday, October 2nd.

Join CTV News anchor Tamara Taggart along with thousands of runners to find a cure to end breast cancer by 2020.

The Run for the Cure in Vancouver will take place at 9:30AM at Concord Pacific Place. Breast cancer survivors, their families, friends, and supporters still have time to register online at www.cbcf.org and start fundraising for this year’s event.

Last year, more than 22,000 British Columbians laced up for the cause and contributed more than $3.6 million to a nation-wide total of $33 million as of Run day. Organizers hope to surpass last year’s fundraising tally in B.C. for the 5KM or 1KM walk or run.

The Run for the Cure is Canada’s largest single day, volunteer-led fundraising event that raises funds for breast cancer research and community education and awareness programs.
One hundred percent of net proceeds from the Run for the Cure in B.C. stay in the region to fund, support and advocate for prevention, early detection, research, treatment and health care workforce improvements. The remaining five percent are allocated to national cause-related programs.
Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer diagnosed in Canadian women. In 2011, approximately 23,400 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer (2,800 in B.C.) and about 5,300 will die (640 in B.C.) from it.

Thanks to ongoing efforts to take control of the disease, breast cancer death rates among women have fallen by more than 30 percent since 1986 and today more women are living longer after a breast cancer diagnosis. B.C. has the highest five-year survival rate in Canada, at 91.8%.
