The northwest B.C. town of Stewart is cut off by road from the rest of the province after flooding washed out parts of a highway and damaged a bridge.
The highways ministry says it could be late next week at the earliest before Highway 37-A is reopened to traffic following the damage caused by heavy rains that hammered the region this week.
The route was closed Tuesday when flooding washed out parts of the road and the situation was compounded when the Bitter Creek Bridge over the Bear River failed on Thursday.
Plans are being made to use a barge to supply Stewart with groceries, fuel and other goods.
Despite the flooding, no homes have been damaged.
High water and mudslides have also closed the Nisga'a Highway near Greenville and Highway 37 North near Bob Quinn Lake.
