Two third year UBC film students had the chance to chat with their idol, "Batman" and "Inception" director Christopher Nolan, after winning a competition to have the conversation of their dreams.

Yuri Cabrera and Ian Holliday talked with the Hollywood director on the phone Tuesday and asked him about the techniques he uses to organize and focus his ideas for his movies.

"He told us to enjoy filmmaking while you're in a situation to be free to film-make, because once you get in a studio and big budget movies, while they're bigger films, you're also fighting to have the freedom you had when you were a student filmmaker," Holliday said.

Holliday entered a competition held by WIND Mobile called Best Conversation Ever and submitted a short video inspired by Nolan's work. The video entry won him hundreds of votes from online viewers, who judged it to be the most creative.

Nolan received $100,000 from WIND to donate to the charity of his choice. The director chose to give the hefty sum to the Canadian Film Centre.

"I am honoured that Ian chose to have a conversation with me," said Nolan. "I wish Ian the best of luck heading into this industry and hope our conversation provided him with some useful information to make breaking through easier."

Holliday is the third of five Canadians to win their "best conversation ever" through the WIND Mobile competition.
