Mounties have released a composite sketch of a person of interested sought in the attempted abduction of a 13-year-old girl in Surrey last week.

Police say the lone teen was carrying bags of groceries near Jay Crescent and Eagle Place at around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday when a man in a minivan pulled up next to her and offered her a ride.

He allegedly grew aggressive as she ignored him, eventually yelling "Get in the van now."

The frightened girl ran to a nearby home where several adult women were standing outside. The van was last seen driving away on Jay Crescent.

Mounties are asking the public's help identifying a person of interested in the case. He is described as a brown-eyed Caucasian man, approximately 40 years old with collar-length salt and pepper coloured hair.

He had a closely-cropped beard and moustache with a slightly pockmarked face. His van appeared to a newer-model, tan-coloured, domestic minivan with dark tinted windows.

Anyone with information is asked to call Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
