The person allegedly involved in a fatal hit-and-run in May has been charged.

Kyle Brandon Danyliuk, 19, of Surrey, B.C. is facing six charges including flight from police causing death.

Marilyn Laursen, 56, was walking with a friend in a marked intersection when she was hit by a 1992 red Nissan Maxima. She died at the scene.

"The men and women who worked on this file went above and beyond to bring this to a resolution," said Bill Fordy of the Surrey RCMP.

"We were all very pleased to be able to tell Marilyn Laursen's family that a suspect was charged."

On May 18 at around 9:40 p.m., RCMP attempted to stop a vehicle at Johnston Road, south of Thrift Avenue in White Rock.

The driver failed to stop for the squad car and sped away north on Johnston Road, according to police.

The Nissan then hit Laursen in the crosswalk at the intersection of Johnston Road and Thrift Avenue. The vehicle failed to stop after the collision and it was later abandoned in the area of 160th Street and King George Highway in Surrey.

Danyliuk is due to appear in court next week in Surrey.
