Authorities are assessing the damage after a gravel barge collided with a bridge in New Westminster early Tuesday morning.
Police say a passing tug boat hauled the barge into a section of the train bridge, located east of the Queensborough Bridge, shortly before 4:45 a.m.
Early reports indicate the damage to the swing bridge may be extensive, but police are awaiting a thorough examination of the bridge structure.
No one was injured in the crash, and the Queensborough Bridge was not affected.
