The Second Coming of the Winnipeg Jets is a done deal.

The team announced Friday evening that Winnipeg's new NHL franchise will carry the same moniker as its beloved predecessor, which left for Phoenix in 1995.

The new-but-old name was formally revealed at the NHL draft Friday night, where Winnipeg picked forward Mark Scheifele seventh overall.

During the draft, held in St. Paul, Minn., a few dozen Jets fans were on hand and chanted "Go Jets Go" throughout the evening.

It's not clear what the team's logo will look like, and fans will have to wait a bit longer for a first peek. The team used a generic jersey during the draft.

The team's name had been the subject of much speculation following the announcement that the NHL would return to the city after an absence of 15 years. Some speculated that the team would be rebranded as the Moose, while others held fast to the Jets moniker.

Winnipeg's NHL franchise carried the moniker of the Jets from 1979 to 1996. From 1972 to 1979, the Jets played in the World Hockey Association.

But once the team was relocated to Phoenix, the league took over control of the Jets name and its trademarks.

The sale of Atlanta's franchise to True North Entertainment was announced on May 31.

Meanwhile, the team has named Claude Noel as head coach.

"When I got the news I was extremely excited," Noel said Friday. "There was a lot of emotion. You know, I've gone through this process a few times and I'm a little older and I thought, 'Jeez, I hope my day's coming.'"

Noel briefly coached the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets in 2010, and coached the American Hockey League's Manitoba Moose last year.

"I thought my day would come and I can't tell you how happy I am," he said.
