Three people are dead and a fourth is in critical condition after the car they were in crashed into a bus in Vancouver Monday evening.

Police say a sedan collided with the rear end of a trolley bus during rush hour near the intersection of Granville Street and Nanton Avenue. The bus was stopped to pick up passengers at the time.

Four adults were in the car. Several people were on board the bus, but only one suffered minor injuries.

Witness Michelle Rose told CTV News she saw the car travelling very fast just before the crash.

"No brake lights. He didn't even touch the brakes," she said.

Other witnesses said they saw the vehicle weaving in and out of traffic.

Matthew Millar was one of the first people on the scene, and helped put out the flames that had engulfed the car.

"I wish we could have done more to help the occupants of the vehicle. It wasn't a good scene and it didn't get much better as the evening progressed," he told CTV News.

He said there was extensive damage to the front end of the car, and some to the back of the bus.
