A firefighter was injured early Friday morning after a suspicious blaze tore through a mansion in Vancouver's Shaughnessy neighbourhood.

The fire at the stately home in the 1600-block of Angus Drive was started not long after another garage fire was reported not far away.

Vancouver Fire Batallion Chief Tom Laverty said the fire broke out in the rear of the Tudor-style home and quickly spread to the cedar roof.

One of the 40 firefighters at the scene suffered a hand injury. He was taken to hospital for treatment and later released.

Laverty said no one was at home when the fire started.
