The Hope, B.C. resident killed Friday evening has been identified as well-known First Nations artist Ken Paquette.

Paquette was featured in a 2008 National Film Board documentary called Hope, which chronicled his life with his partner and their five children.

The 67-year-old died early Saturday morning in hospital after being assaulted inside his suite at the Thunderbird Motel.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team is still working to determine the motive, but Cpl. Dale Carr said the attack does not appear to have been random.

"We do know at this point that the [victim and suspect] were known to eachother," Carr said Saturday.

Paquette was assaulted at the same motel where reality TV star Ryan Jenkins took his own life in August 2009.

Jenkins had been fleeing from authorities more than a week prior to his death after his ex-wife Jasmine Fiore's body was found in a dumpster in California. He was facing a first-degree murder charge in her death.
