Divers have recovered one body from a truck that plunged into the water from a ramp at the Swartz Bay ferry terminal in Victoria, B.C.

The truck went off a vehicle ramp and into the water shortly after 5:30 p.m. BC Ambulance workers and Coast Guard rescuers were on scene to search for the vehicle, and divers went into the water about an hour after the truck disappeared.

They recovered the body of a man around 7:20 p.m.

A witness told CTV News that he saw a single person in the cab of the truck as it briefly floated on the surface before sinking into the water.

Mark Stefanson of BC Ferries said that the white pick-up truck was waiting in line when it took off at a "high rate of speed" and rammed through barriers on the ramp, into the water below.

There was no ferry in dock at the time.

The incident halted ferry sailings in both directions from the terminal.
