A coroner's inquest in Cranbrook will spend the next four days hearing details of a fatal helicopter crash and seeking ways to avert a similar tragedy.

A single-engine chopper carrying the pilot and two BC Hydro workers went down three years ago when it suddenly lost power as it flew low over a Cranbrook street.

The three men died, along with 21-year-old pedestrian Isaiah Otieno, as the wreckage burst into flames on impact.

BC Hydro has already changed the type of helicopter it charters to check its power lines, but the coroner's jury may hear other information about why the aircraft was flying so low over a residential area and exactly what led to the crash.
