Would-be NDP leadership candidate Dana Larsen says party president Moe Sihota has apologized for claiming Larsen is not eligible to seek the NDP's top job.

Larsen says Sihota made the comments in a recent phone call and the apology has been accepted.

According to Larsen, Sihota has also withdrawn claims that the marijuana activist was declared ineligible to run federally for the New Democrats.

Larsen -- who announced Wednesday that he will seek the leadership of the BC NDP -- says he resigned voluntarily as a federal candidate in 2008 to avoid becoming a distraction during the campaign.

He stepped down after videos were released showing him taking LSD and smoking dozens of marijuana cigarettes.
